Tom Scott (682x800)

Dear Gillespie’s Parents/Carers,

A welcome to our new S1 Parents/Carers and welcome back to our S2 – S6 Parent/Carers.

We’re looking to this year’s extra-curricular sport at James Gillespie’s High School and I hope your child finds a sport/physical activity (or more) that they’re interested in and enjoy at one of our clubs on offer.

Please find below a list of clubs on offer currently for pupils attending JGHS.

We’re very excited to offer a new Bike Club this year in partnership with Sustrans and led by Miss Dickinson and Miss Dolan. Later in the year participants will have the opportunity to attend cycling trips outside of school (watch this space!). We’re also excited to offer an expanded swimming program to cater for all levels of swimming ability of pupils in the school in partnership with Swimeasy and Warrender Baths Swimming Club.

Another exciting development at Gillespie’s this year is the recent completion of the indoor cricket nets. Alongside special floor matting this will allow hardball netted cricket training at the high school. We’re delighted to offer a cricket club to our program. This will run in partnership with Carlton Cricket Club and provides pupils with a potential player pathway to progress within school and the club.

On another note, I know some of you were disappointed last there is currently no badminton on offer for our pupils. This is due to Miss. Crosbie, who delivered the club in previous years, leaving the school on temporary secondment to Abu Dhabi at the start of this term. Rest assured I’m working hard to get badminton back on our program in its previous time of Thursday 5 – 6pm. Once this has been arranged and confirmed I’ll promote this to let our pupils know.

You’re now invited to join activities through our school sports membership scheme. Please follow the instructions on this letter. Sign ups are now online via the www.joininedinburgh.org website.” – Tom
