Learners will investigate key areas of the living environment, such as biodiversity and interdependence, resource issues in the atmosphere, hydrosphere, geosphere and biosphere, and sustainability and sustainable development.

Course Assessment—100 marks total . Question paper (80 marks.) Assignment (20 marks)

Unit Assessment All 3 Units are internally assessed against the requirements shown in the SQA Unit Specification. All outcomes must be passed for presentation at the final examination.

Higher Environmental Science

Entry requirements: National 5 Geography, National 5 Biology or National 5 Environmental Science or equivalent qualifications and/or experience.

The course comprises three mandatory Units: Living Environment, Earth’s Resources & Sustainability

Course Assessment – 120 marks total. Question Paper:           2 ½ hours, in a short answer format plus 2 essay-style questions. (100 marks) Assignment: Completed in term time for submission to SQA (20 marks)

Advanced Higher

A pass in Environmental Science is accepted as entry to Advanced Higher Geography where students can develop their Environmental Science knowledge and skills through a folio worth 70% of their final grade. This consists of a critical essay on a controversial topic and a study based on original research and fieldwork.
