National 5 Beginners’ German – Course Outline – S3

At beginner’s level all pupils should have:

  • 1 x vocab book
  • 1 x grammar jotter
  • 1 x jotter
  • 1 x Edexcel textbook
  • 1 x Edexcel workbook

Homework:

  • Pupils must revise vocabulary after each German class at home (about 15mins)
  • Students to identify areas for independent study themselves over and above set homework
  • Evidence of learning in grammar books – date/activity/parental signature
  • This class may not simply receive homework once a week and should expect to receive more than on other courses
  • Listening material is available on Edmodo

In the S3 beginners German course at Nat 5, pupils must first learn all of the basic vocabulary needed regarding personal information, introductions and basic conversation before embarking on topics such as ‘die Umwelt, ‘Alkohol und Drogen’,’Globale Bürgerschaft’ etc.

Much of the first year of the course will be spent bringing pupils up to a sufficient level of German in these basic areas using material from the Edexcel German textbook.

Globale Bürgerschaft

Pupils should complete this theme at the same time as the non-beginner’s due to Red Hand Day in Feb. Global Citizenship is the main theme here. Pupils will look at issues surrounding child soldiers, child labour and poverty. They will design posters to be displayed around the school and send off red hands with signatures to the European Parliament in protest.
