Whether for young people or adults, we believe that it is important to raise awareness and reduce stigma surrounding mental health. The impact of social media, relationship challenges and other world events has meant that managing mental health can be a challenging part of everyday life.
As we discover more and more about the challenges of managing mental health, we believe that it is important to equip young people with an understanding of what mental health is, influences which affect mental health and finally healthy ways of dealing with our own feelings and thoughts.
This course is therefore divided into three units:
- Understanding Mental Health
- Outcome 1: Explaining what is meant by mental health and well-being.
- Outcome 2: Explaining a range of mental-health conditions
- Outcome 3: Understanding the role of the brain in relation to mental health and wellbeing
- Influences on mental health and well-being
- Outcome 1: Factors influencing mental health
- Outcome 2: Understanding the role of technology and social media.
- Coping strategies and resilience
- Outcome 1: Developing an understanding of helpful and unhelpful coping strategies
- Outcome 2: Promoting good mental health and wellbeing

This subject takes place over the course of 5 periods per/week. The course is assessed based on the student’s ability to demonstrate that they have achieved the outcomes mentioned above through continuous assessment. We aim to develop students’ learning and writing skills, while supporting them to understand their own mental health and develop resilience.
