Reporting an absence

Illness or unplanned absence

Please tell us before 8:00am on the first morning your child is off, by either:

• phoning 0131 447 1900 and leaving a voice message, or
• texting the absence line on 07860 029667.

Please include your child’s full name, year group or class, and the reason. If your child is off for more than one day, please contact us again each day or tell us how long you expect them to be away.

Appointments, holidays and other planned absence

Please give us as much notice as possible, and at least 3 school days where you can. Email the school office with your child’s full name, year group, the date and time, and the reason.

Medical and dental appointments: please tell us in advance and, where possible, try to arrange appointments outside school hours.

Family holidays and other exceptional circumstances: these must be requested in advance using the Absence Request Due to Exceptional Circumstances form, which is considered by the Head Teacher. Please contact the school office in the first instance who will be able to advise.

Contacting a member of staff

Please email the school office and your message will be passed to the right person. Please include your child’s name and year group in the subject line so we can direct it quickly.

We kindly ask that parents and carers do not contact teachers directly by their personal emails. By routing your request through the school office, this allows us to work efficiently and manage staff workload.

Urgent matters

For anything urgent or time-sensitive, please phone the school office on 0131 447 1900 rather than emailing. If you have a child protection concern, phone the school straight away; see our Child Protection page. In an emergency, call 999.
