Pupil Voice, Parent Voice and our Gaelic partnerships

Guth nan Sgoilear / Pupil Voice

Guth nan Sgoilear — the GME Pupil Voice group — was established in October 2024 by Rose Stewart (S6) and Clara McCabe (S6), in response to GME pupil concerns regarding equity and inclusion of the Gaelic community within JGHS.

The aims of the group are:

  • To facilitate communication between pupils and teachers, allowing the school to align teaching and whole-school strategies to support students in strengthening and celebrating their cultural identity
  • To communicate concerns and challenges faced by the GME student body to the whole-school community
  • To work collaboratively alongside the school’s management team to implement changes which will increase the GME community’s sense of belonging at JGHS
  • To ensure pupils feel heard and able to take pride in their Gaelic language and culture, strengthening their identity

Guth nam Pàrant / Parent Voice

JGHS’s first GME Parent Voice Group was established in September 2024, in recognition of the unique educational pathway GME children and families undertake in the City of Edinburgh.

The aims of the group are:

  • To facilitate communication between home and school to better understand family perspectives and priorities, enhancing collaboration
  • To gather valuable feedback on school policies, curriculum development, and resources, ensuring the school’s provision reflects the needs of Gaelic-speaking families
  • To strengthen community ties and encourage parents and carers to share their experiences and insights, fostering a sense of belonging and shared purpose
  • To advocate for the importance of Gaelic education, raising awareness and support within the broader community

Com-pàirteachas / Partnerships

We collaborate with a national and local network of Gaelic organisations to enhance pupils’ educational experiences and increase cross-generational language exposure.
