Career Ready is a two-year social mobility programme for S5 and S6 pupils. It connects young people with businesses and organisations across the UK, helping them develop confidence, skills and the contacts they need for life beyond school.
About Career Ready
Career Ready is a social mobility charity whose aim is to empower young people by connecting them with businesses and organisations around the UK. It provides workplace experiences, masterclasses, career insights and a network of support delivered in the workplace, schools and colleges.
The programme has a large network of 3,300 volunteers from local and national employers across various sectors. Working within this network, Career Ready gives young people a platform to develop new skills, grow their confidence and find the right career path for them.
Who Can Apply?
Career Ready aims to support pupils from any of the following backgrounds:
- Receiving Free School Meals
- Receiving Educational Maintenance Allowance
- Young Carer and/or Care Experienced
- First in the family to consider post-secondary education
The Programme
Over the course of the two-year programme (S5/6), pupils have the opportunity to be matched with a mentor from an Edinburgh-based organisation and take part in six masterclasses, each addressing vital skills for work and life beyond school.
Students also participate in monthly mentor meetings and a four-week paid internship within their matched organisation.
