Every year, JGHS students make important decisions about which subjects to study. This page brings together the course choice materials for each key transition point — booklets, course offers and guidance documents to help pupils and families make informed choices.
S2 into S3
At the end of S2, pupils choose the subjects they will study in S3 — a broad selection of around seven subjects spanning the full curriculum. This is an important first step towards National qualifications, so aim for breadth, choose subjects you enjoy, and consider your longer-term ambitions. A Coursing Evening is held each January for pupils and families.

S4 into S5
Moving into S5, pupils specialise further — typically selecting four or five Highers alongside any National 5 resits. This is also when School-College Partnership courses become available, offering a wider range of vocational and academic pathways beyond the school timetable. Speak to your Pupil Support Leader if you are unsure which route is right for you.

S5 into S6
S6 course choices focus on Advanced Highers, the Scottish Baccalaureate, Foundation Apprenticeships and NPA options. This is your final year of school, so consider carefully what your post-school destination requires — whether university, college, an apprenticeship or employment. Your Pupil Support Leader can help you map your choices to your ambitions.
