Art and Design at JGHS offers pupils an exciting environment to develop as both artists and designers. Through a broad range of processes and approaches, pupils are encouraged to explore their creativity, develop problem-solving skills, and investigate the world around them. Observational drawing, personal expression, and active learning are central to every project.
S1 – S2
S1 and S2 pupils have one period of Art per week. They develop understanding of the Visual Elements in expressive artwork and design issues in design briefs, building research, creative and evaluation skills alongside technical ability and written coursework.
Projects are frequently cross-curricular and collaborative. Pupils are encouraged to enter competitions, and lunchtime sessions are available for completing project work. Many JGHS art alumni go on to gain places on Art and Design degree and foundation courses across the UK.
