Physical Education

Physical Education at JGHS provides pupils with a safe, supportive and enjoyable learning environment that promotes healthy, active lifestyles. Through a broad range of activities, pupils develop physical competence, life skills and the confidence to participate in sport and physical activity throughout their lives.

S1 – S2

S1

Fitness  ·  Hockey  ·  Swimming  ·  Gymnastics  ·  Basketball  ·  Table Tennis or Tennis

S2

Netball or Volleyball  ·  Badminton or Tennis  ·  Water Polo  ·  Dance  ·  Rugby  ·  Football

Pupils are assessed on practical performance using national benchmarks, and develop important life skills — cooperation, competition, and self-evaluation — in a friendly, inclusive environment. The S1 and S2 curriculum is closely linked to the extensive Active Schools programme and external sports clubs.

S3 – S4

In S3, Core PE differs from earlier years, with pupils choosing activities that match their interests and strengths. The S3 programme supports a Sports Education model that can lead to qualifications in auxiliary roles such as coaching, officiating and leadership.
